Access to Education & Financial Assistance

  • Championed the Michigan Community College Guarantee, helping more than 6,000 local high school graduates access a tuition-free pathway to Lansing Community College.

  • Supported expansion of Michigan Reconnect, creating tuition-free opportunities for adults age 21 and older to earn college credentials and advance their careers.

  • Helped keep LCC affordable, maintaining one of Michigan’s lowest in-district tuition rates and earning a statewide ranking among the most affordable community colleges.

  • Invested $500,000 to expand student food assistance programs, helping reduce barriers that prevent students from completing their education.

Mentorship to Graduation

  • Supported the implementation of a new Academic Alert System that improves communication, identifies students needing assistance earlier, and connects them with support services.

  • Expanded LCC’s First-Generation College Celebration, recognizing and encouraging students who are the first in their families to pursue higher education.

  • Helped establish a dedicated Transfer Center, giving students direct access to nearly 20 universities, including Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), to support seamless transfer and degree completion.

  • Supported enrollment growth for two consecutive years after a prolonged decline, helping more students begin and continue their educational journey at LCC.

Pathways to Skilled Trades & Certifications

  • Provided 100 laptops to students in skilled trades programs, ensuring access to the technology needed for classroom and workforce success.

  • Secured a $4.5 million State of Michigan investment to expand LCC’s Utility and Line Worker Program and strengthen apprenticeship opportunities.

  • Invested $6.5 million to launch the Health and Human Services Simulation Center, providing hands-on training for in-demand healthcare careers.

Career Preparation & Placement

  • Expanded workforce training opportunities that prepare students for high-demand careers in healthcare, utilities, and skilled trades.

  • Strengthened partnerships that connect students to apprenticeships, industry credentials, transfer opportunities, and good-paying jobs.

  • Opened the Historical Change Maker Center, an interactive community space that celebrates African American leaders from the Lansing area while fostering community engagement, leadership development, and cultural awareness.

Biography

Hope Lovell is a transformational leader who believes in empowering education and career growth at every phase in life and every opportunity given.

Mrs. Lovell has risen to become a corporate c-suite executive who manages over 50 employees, multiple government contracts, and is a voice across the nation for women leaders as a national board member of ATHENA WIN International.

Hope is a graduate of Michigan State University receiving her bachelor’s degree in finance and a graduate of University of Michigan earning her master’s degree in public health. As a lifelong learner she became a certified organic farmer through the Michigan State University Extension organic farming program.

Called on to pioneer innovative systems of change, tackle difficult problems, inspire workforces, and encourage corporate cultures to flourish, she is no stranger to rising above difficult tasks. This includes oversight for an early childhood education program which secured funding from the Michigan Department of Education to serve and meet the needs of the community.

For over 15 years, Hope has served as the Executive Director of LoveJoy Community Services, an organization dedicated to supporting individuals with special needs. Under her leadership, LoveJoy has grown to a $2.5 million dollar organization with 50 employees and has attained national accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). LoveJoy has contracted with government agencies in over 10 counties throughout Michigan and acts as a training hub for students to gain experience while furthering their education in related health fields.

Prior to founding LoveJoy, Hope worked in investment banking and portfolio management for 6 years with some of the world’s largest financial institutions, including JP Morgan Chase and Bank of America. She was responsible for underwriting over $4 billion in commercial real estate loans for homebuilders, developers, private equity real estate funds, and real estate investment trusts (REITs).

A natural born social entrepreneur with a heart for helping others, she has recently returned to the financial services industry as the Chief Strategy Officer and Licensed Investment Advisor for a women-owned, minority-owned wealth management firm, Alexander Legacy Private Wealth Management, that focuses on providing career growth opportunities for women financial advisors.

Hope has extensive board governance experience. She has served 3 years as the Ingham County appointed Board Chair of Ingham Community Health Centers, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and one of the largest primary care providers in Mid-Michigan. In this role, Hope is responsible for the oversight of a nearly $40 million operation including 13 locations, and delivery of health care services to over 27,000 of the community’s most vulnerable populations, including multiple school based clinics within the Lansing School District providing integrated behavioral health to students regardless of their ability to pay. As a result of her leadership excellence in governance, she was awarded Board Member of the Year in 2022 by the Michigan Primary Care Association and recognized by Modern Healthcare as an honoree for Excellence in Governance in their July 2023 publication. In January 2023, she was featured in the Lansing City Pulse’s Person of the Year issue for her crucial role in the development of the new Allen Community Health Center, an anchor in the $11 million development Allen Place that created partnership between both the public and private sectors.

Hope also serves on the board of directors for Community Economic Development Association of Michigan (CEDAM), a statewide coalition of community and economic development organizations. She serves as a member of the Finance Committee. Hope has served as Board Treasurer of Jack & Jill of Greater Lansing and Michigan Coalition of Domestic & Sexual Violence, and as a trustee with Tabernacle of David Worship Center.

Hope and her husband, Donald, have been married for almost 20 years. Them and their 4 children reside in the Greater Lansing Area.
